Project summary

The project "INTERFACE" will contribute to ensure that the targeted Universities (PCU) are able to facilitate the graduates’ entrance into the labour market through enhanced partnerships with enterprises, to set up – based on these partnerships – an institutionalised life long learning (LLL) system, and to establish a quality improvement system through coordinated contact with alumni.

More specifically, the project aims at enhancing the employability of alumni, at ensuring LLL and on the job training for academics, at fostering transfer and multiplication of knowledge to society and thus at combating brain drain. Moreover, the insitutionalised contact to alumni working for enterprises shall help setting up a continuous learning and quality improvement system at the PCUs which will be using the input given by their alumni.

In oder to achieve these goals, firstly, each PCU will conduct an analysis of already existing activities related to the domain of this project. Additionally, good practice examples from the EU partner universities (EUU) will be reviewed.

Secondly, a strategy will be devoloped at each PCU on how to fill the existing gaps when it comes to setting up linkages to enterprises and society at large.

Thirdly, so called Interface Centers (IC) will be establishe at each PCU. They will be the main responsible body at each PCU whith regard to the universities' relations with students about to graduate, with alumni, with enterprises and with society at large. The ICs will launch their operations through the implementation of a pilot project at each IC. These will be dealing with either career counselling, alumni relations or LLL.
 
The results achieved within this project will be disseminated through roadshows, open days, a webportal and a visibility package and through the final conference and local workshops which will be open to the public.
3-year business plans will be developed to ensure the sustainability of the ICs beyond the project period.

Objectives

INTERFACE aims at achieving the following 5 specific objectiv:

  • Enhancing the employability of university graduates;
  • ensuring LLL and on the job training for academics;
  • fostering transfer and multiplication of academic knowledge to society;
  • combating brain drain; and
  • setting up a continuous learning and quality improvement system for universities.

These specific objectives will be achieved throught the following three major steps:

1. The necessary structures and capacities at the PCUs in order to achiev these objectives will be identified and developed through knowledge transfer.
2. Interface Centers (IC) dealing with career counselling, LLL and alumni activities will be established at each PCU.
3. Pilot projects dealing with either career counselling, LLL or alumni activities will be conducted at each IC.

The development of 3-year IC business plans, signed by the recorates, will ensure the institutionalisation & sustainability of the ICs at the respective PCUs.

  • To enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in the partner countries.
  • To build up the capacity of higher education institutions in the partner countries and the EU, in particular for international cooperation and for a permanent modernisation process, and to assist them in opening themselves up to society at large.
